My wife is a Windows programmer so I let it slide that she uses a Windows computer at home since she is the breadwinner of the house. Today she wanted to know if she could print to the printer on my Mac over the network. I figured there was probably some software that would help but was surprised to find out just how easy it would be:
Sharing your Mac Printer to your network:
If you use a Mac it is very easy to share your printer to any other Mac on your Network. Simply go to System Preferences -> Sharing and click the check box for Printer Sharing.
Using Bonjour Printer so a Windows computer can Print to a Mac Printer
If you want to also share your printer to a Windows computer on the Network you just need to install a Free program from Apple called Bonjour Printer and voila you are ready to rock and roll:
About Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2
Bonjour Print Services for Windows lets you discover and configure Bonjour-enabled printers from your Windows computer using the Bonjour Printer Wizard.
After you install the Bonjour Printer app on the Windows machine there is a quick wizard setup where you select the printer on the network that you want to print to. This is really easy but then I remembered that we were using an Apple program so that made sense.
My wife opened the doc in Google Docs, selected Print, selected the Networked Printer and BAM the future was here now.
